Montrose is a family-owned and friendly care home in Dorchester, just a stone’s throw from the shops, market and parks.
Each of our 22 residents has their own bedroom, which they can personalise with their own pictures, bedding and smaller pieces of furniture. Most are permanent residents, but we also offer short-term respite care.
Choosing a care home can be a daunting task. The best way to really get a feel for the home is to pop in for a cuppa, tour the home, including any available bedrooms and talk to our manager, staff and residents. This will really help you get a feel for Montrose and what it’s like to be part of our community.
Our Registered Manager Rachel joined the team in November 2024. Rachel has more than 30 years’ experience of caring for older people and people with learning disabilities.
With an RMA (Registered Manager’s Award) and an NVQ Level 4 in Care Rachel manages all aspects of the day-to-day running of Montrose Care Home, along with the support of our care team and Deputy Manager, Elena. Rachel is also our Safeguarding Lead.

Our home is as busy as each resident wants it to be. We are lucky to have two co-ordinators who organise a wide range of individual and group activities.
When the weather’s good we get out and about as much as we can.
We love to connect with people of all ages from our local community! Children from a local pre-school come to sing songs and play games with our residents, and we have a monthly Knit and Natter session, inviting local people to join us with to craft and chat.
Music and stories are a big part of life at Montrose – we have singers in every week, and have started to compile a book of poems written by our residents.
Tasty, nutritious food is at the heart of Montrose. Our chefs work hard to design menus to tickle our residents’ taste buds!
Our chefs love to rise to the occasion, baking birthday cakes, or special food to mark events, such as a Welsh-themed menu on St. David’s Day.
We cater to everyone’s individual dietary needs and make sure that everyone can enjoy excellent home cooked food, served in line with their specific requirements.
Residents can choose to dine in the communal dining room or in the comfort of their own rooms.
Tea, coffee, biscuits, and fresh fruit are available at any time, day or night.
All standard meals, snacks, and drinks are included in the service fees. Special dietary items may incur an additional charge, and limited quantities of alcohol are offered on special occasions.
Montrose has a homely feel, and we’ve designed it that way so that residents feel at home as soon as they move in. We arrange visits from a hairdresser and chiropodist, and have strong links with local GPs and the district nursing team.
Each of our residents has their own private bedroom, which we respect as their own personal space.
Residents are encouraged to add their own touches to their bedroom, such as family photos and pictures.
We spend sociable time together in the lounge, doing activities, or simply reading, listening to music or watching TV.
Residents also enjoy eating together in our comfortable dining room.
Residents love to spend time in our spacious garden, or on the patio.
One of our favourite things to do is feeding the birds who visit us. There’s plenty of space to sit with other residents or visitors.
Costs for our care home start at £1250 per week. This all-inclusive cost includes round-the-clock care, accommodation, meals, activities and outings.
